Tashkent is a very modern city with lots of parks and fountains, lovely statues, lovely cafes, and excellent restaurants. It can be thought of as an introduction to the stunning Islamic architecture, which is probably the main reason you are visiting Uzbekistan.
Getting around Tashkent
It’s very easy and cheap to get around Tashkent by metro. It only costs $0.15, there are metro stations near all the must-see places to visit in Tashkent and one of the top things to do in Tashkent is riding its metro as the city has some of the most beautiful metro stations in the world.
TAXI
Another well-liked mode of transportation in Tashkent is the taxi. Apps for smartphones like Yandex and MyTaxi are highly recommended. Car rental services exist in Tashkent. Cars should be ordered at least a day in advance. It is advisable to book further in advance during the peak tourist season, when there may be a shortage of cars.
SHOPPING
Visit the Compass, Mega Planet, Next, Parus, and Samarkand Darvaza retail and entertainment centres to enjoy both shopping and entertainment at the same time. These have a lot of stores that sell worldwide brands, food courts, movie theaters, and kid’s play areas, among other contemporary amenities.
Tashkent’s lively bazaars encapsulate the allure of shopping in the eastern style, complete with amiable vendors and stalls filled with freshly picked fruits and vegetables, aromatic spices, warm lepeshka (non) bread, and a wide variety of items. The two most visited bazaars for tourists are Chorsu and Alay.
PARKS
Tashkent’s parks are a haven for walkers, especially in the spring, early summer and fall. The first park in Tashkent to integrate “green” building practices into its design and architecture was Ecopark. There are no fairground rides, but instead of being in the thick of the city, guests can wander along well-kept trails, have a picnic on the grass or do yoga.
BEST TIME TO VISIT TASHKENT
Traveling to Tashkent (and Uzbekistan) is most enjoyable in the spring (April–May) and fall (October–November). Those seasons typically have quite good weather with temperatures hovering around 20°C (68°F).
Tashkent experiences hot, dry summers from July to August, with average highs of 35°C (95°F).
But as the sun goes down, it’s pleasant to stroll through the parks and boulevards because this is when the city and its people really come to life.
If you wish to view the city blanketed in snow, winter in Tashkent might also be a great time to visit. During the winter, the typical temperature is approximately 5°C (41°F).
TASHKENT SAFE FOR TOURIST?
Travelers can feel even more secure in Uzbekistan’s capital city as the government just established a “tourist police” force. In any Uzbek tourist destination, you may find their footwear. The Uzbeks are amiable and have no negative motives at all. They will graciously approach you and offer to aid if they notice that you’re lost or in need of assistance.
Pickpockets and other small-time criminal incidents may occur, particularly in busy areas in Tashkent’s bazaars, but they are rare. Simply said, no matter where you are in the globe, always keep your valuables in a secure location.
